University of Miami
Net Price Calculator
The estimates shall not be binding on the Secretary of
Education, the University of Miami, or the State. Students must complete the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for,
and receive, an actual financial aid award that includes Federal grant, loan,
or work-study assistance, State of Florida grants and scholarships, and
University of Miami need-based grants. For more information on applying for
Federal student aid, go to http://www.fafsa.gov.
By clicking below, I acknowledge
that the estimate provided using this calculator does not represent a final
determination, or actual award, of financial assistance, or a final net price;
it is an estimate based on price of attendance and financial aid provided to
students in the 2009-2010 year. The price of attendance and financial aid
availability change year to year.
Other Sources of Aid
This calculator generates
results for grants and scholarships, resources a student does not repay. Not
all students receive these resources. In 2009-2010, 53% of UM’s full-time
undergraduates enrolling in college for the first time received
grant/scholarship aid. Other sources of funds are available to help students
with the price of attendance. Private scholarships, Federal education loans,
and Federal work study are not included in the results of this estimator. For
more information on applying for financial aid at the University of Miami,
including federal student aid, go to http://www.miami.edu/ofas.
Limits of the Calculator’s
Applicability to Certain Student Groups
This calculator is designed
for use by entering first-time freshmen who are dependent students and who are
U.S. citizens or have Permanent Resident status. There are several groups of
students for whom this calculator is not appropriate:
·
Independent
New Freshmen: There are insufficient numbers of independent new freshmen to
develop a calculator that yields reliable results.
·
Student
Athletes: This calculator cannot estimate a student’s potential eligibility for
Athletic Scholarships. However, Athletes should consider using this estimator
for scenarios where Athletic Scholarships are not awarded (e.g.; “Walk-On”
athletes).
·
University
of Miami Faculty, Staff, or their Dependents: This calculator cannot estimate
potential eligibility for University Tuition Remission benefits.

Price of Attendance
·
The
tuition and fees used in the price of attendance reflect full time enrollment
ranging from 12 through 20 credit hours for each semester. The University’s
tuition and fee charges are the same regardless of where the student’s actual
enrollment falls within this range.
·
A
student’s living arrangement is a significant factor in the estimated price of
attendance used to determine need. The estimated price of attendance for
students residing on campus is based on a residence hall room for two students
and the 20 meal plan. The estimate for personal expenses includes an allowance
for the cost of a laptop computer. The allowances for room and board for
students residing with parents, and all students’ estimated book and supply,
transportation, and personal expenses are based on the average expense as
reported by students on periodic surveys of their actual spending experience.
University and Other Merit
Awards
·
The University
of Miami has a very generous merit award program. These guidelines for
scholarships have been developed to help you understand the level of academic
achievement displayed by previous scholarship recipients. Please
understand that these are general guidelines and meeting them does not
guarantee any award. The Scholarship Committee will make the final
determination on scholarship awards. Users
of this calculator are encouraged to run multiple scenarios, with and without a
scholarship, and using different scholarship levels.
·
Florida Bright Futures
Scholarship (Florida Academic, Florida Medallion, and Florida Gold Seal)
eligibility criteria can and often do change from year to year based on action
by the Florida legislature. Users of this calculator self-identify the Bright
Futures Scholarship level and are encouraged to run multiple scenarios using
different scholarship levels and different levels for the Florida Bright
Futures Scholarship.
Information you will find
useful in completing this estimator include:
·
Parent
and student income and asset information
·
Student
academic credentials (SAT or ACT score, cumulative high school grade point
average, and approximate rank in class)
No personally identifiable
data is requested in this calculator, nor are the results saved. Users who wish
to compare results of various scenarios should print the results presented for
each scenario.
